A former Thai boxing champion has been sentenced to seven years in prison for a fatal robbery in a brothel apartment. The Berlin Regional Court found the 47-year-old man guilty of robbery resulting in death.
The incident occurred on the night of April 17, 2023, in the Friedrichshain district. During the robbery, the man struck the 55-year-old sex worker, causing injuries that led to her death. His 35-year-old accomplice received a two-year suspended sentence.
They suspected that the sex worker has thousand euros at home
The main defendant and his accomplice suspected the sex worker had several thousand euros in her apartment. However, the robbery yielded only around 25 euros.
The court ruled that there was no intent to kill, but the actions were negligent and led to the victim’s death.
The 47-year-old was arrested a few days after the incident and has been in custody since. The accomplice, who was involved in planning the robbery and waited outside the house, was detained in October and later released from further pre-trial detention.
Both men confessed during the four-month trial. The prosecution had sought twelve years in prison for the main defendant on charges of murder and a three-year sentence for the accomplice.
The defense lawyer for the main defendant argued for a significantly lesser sentence, while the accomplice’s lawyer sought probation.
The court described the men as “not ruthless violent criminals.” The verdict is not yet legally binding.
